Staff

Here to Serve

Morning Star’s staff is here to use their spiritual gifts to serve God, its members and the community.  Our workers are members of the church who volunteer their time each week to warmly greet members and visitors, perform worship music during service, teach during Sunday school and youth programs, perform outreach activities or serve in some other way.  If you have attended our Sunday service, you may have encountered one of our amazing volunteers.

Pastor Jordan Duncan

Pastor
I was the classic church kid.  My parents were heavily involved with church.  We went to church all day on Sunday, Wednesday nights and every event during the week.  Ever since I could remember, church was a part of my life.  I grew up in the church, but it didn’t seem to really impact my life.  Then one day, it did.  In July 1997, I was saved at youth camp.  Even though I was raised in the church, it was at that moment that I finally understood and accepted the grace of God.  Christ became more to me than I ever thought he could.

When my father started this church in 1999, I was attending another church.  I came to the first service with my girlfriend to support him and have been a part of Morning Star ever since that day.  They have become my extended family.  Many of its members are like brothers and sisters to me.

Within a few years, I became Morning Star’s youth pastor and occasionally gave sermons under my father’s wing.  In 2012, I stepped in to lead the church on an interim basis when my father became ill.  In 2013, I was asked by the congregation to pastor the church.

If you are looking for a church to call your home, I hope that you would consider Morning Star Church.

 Worship Leader
Worship Leader/Pastor’s Wife
Morning Star is more than a church, it’s my home.  I have been here since its first service in February 1999.  I am the Worship Leader and enjoy leading the church in praise and worship every week with Morning Star’s live band.  Our church honors the Lord with songs from contemporary Christian artists and the occasional classic hymn.

Church activities keep me very busy throughout the year.  I plan church events, assist with youth activities including Awana and Vacation bible School (VBS) and lead the women’s group Refuel, a group designed to re-energize mothers who are in the thick of parenting children ages newborn to 17 years of age.

I am also Pastor Duncan’s wife.  We have been married since 2002, live in Garden City and have three beautiful children Isaac, Jacob and Sophie.

Outside of Morning Star, I am the Director of Family First Learning Center, a preschool located in Canton, Mich.

Youth Leader
Youth Leader
My name is Erich Hinkle.  I was born in 1994, which makes me pretty young to be in such a leadership role.  If the scripture about Timothy has taught me anything, it’s that God equips the young.

I have been the youth pastor since October 2013.  In my free time, I coach track and field at Garden City High School as well as run various different races throughout the year.  While I do LOVE athletics, I am a huge nerd as well.  I can tell just about anything pertaining to The Flash comic book or Pokémon.

Some of my duties as a youth pastor are to provide messages to the teens at Morning Star and govern youth group (high school) and its activities.  My role has become so much more than I thought it would be.  I feel called to help lead our next generation in a way that’s aligned with Christ’s teachings the will of God.  I want to help a generation of young people who are on fire for God and have reckless abandonment for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Childrens Leader
Children’s Ministry Leader
When God writes our story, it’s always better than we could ever think or imagine.  Being the children’s ministries director for Morning Star Church was part of God’s story that I never saw coming when I started volunteering in children and youth ministries as an 18 year old college student.  All that fun I had loving kids and their families was preparing me for a life of serving children.  It was then I learned that children need to know and be known, serve and be served, love and be loved, and celebrate and be celebrated.

I am surrounded by children every day.  I am the blessed mother of five beautiful children and I am a fifth/sixth grade teacher in my hometown of Garden City.  I now see why God kept me so close to home.  He knew that the pastor’s son would eventually be in my class and would invite me to attend Morning Star Church – the church my children and I now call home.  God started a work in me years ago, and He is faithfully continuing that work with the preschool through fifth grade children at Morning Star Church.  Although my main role is planning curriculum and teaching large group every Sunday morning, I also enjoy leading the boys’ small group once a month and teaching during our Awana and Vacation Bible School programs.
